First Working Test of Our Lives – 06/04/2025
2025.04.06.
At the end of last year, we had to face a lot of difficulties – unusual things happened to us. After that, I was given a few months to sort out my mind, and in the meantime, Scotty and I went back to work. He was the one who pulled me forward and kept my spirits up.
In February, the preparation for the March work test began – weekly commuting between Budapest and Békéscsaba, hard but enthusiastic work. Fortunately, we got back on track, our trainers also trusted us, and so finally a huge dream of mine came true: we passed the working exam with Scotty – I GOT A WORKING EXAM DOG!
Before the exam, I entered the Bonfire Memorial Working Test, class E. I heard so many good things about the previous event that I felt like it – if we are already at work, why not? At worst, it can be a good training. This is how we got to Jásd, the first WT of our lives.
I was very curious how I would experience all this – I wasn’t particularly nervous, I was like, “Just for fun”, as we had already reached our real goal a week earlier.
When the day started and we went to the first station, you could already feel what serious challenges the beautiful but hilly region of the Bakony Mountains had in store – it could make even seemingly simple tasks more difficult. My little dog from the Great Plain – and myself – found ourselves in a completely unusual terrain, we had never trained in a similar environment before.
The first, second, and then third tasks went well – Scotty was very attentive and skillful throughout. At this point, the adrenaline started in me and I had only one wish: let’s not reset on the last one! But Scotty excelled there too, in fact, we got maximum points!
Supeeer! We did it!
It was a fantastic day, a real experience, full of good vibes and excitement.
Scotty was very tired, he had already slept a lot under the table, when suddenly he said:
“RUN-OFF.”
What the heck is a run-off? Well, it turned out quickly… We became one of the pairs who finished with the same score at the end of the day, so a fateful task awaited us.
I had to wake my dog up from a well-deserved nap so that we could get back on the field.
Scotty did a beautiful job of getting a long nomination – I don’t think he’s ever worked for such a long haul in his life. This extra round was a great experience, although I was already very nervous at the time – all eyes were on us and you could feel the weight of the stakes.
I was very proud of him all day – he is a real show dog, not even with the most ideal working dog physique. He has good bones, teddy bears, although he has excellent stamina – but let’s face it, he is not a typical working retriever. And yet, it held its own fantastically.
At the end of the day, at the announcement of the results, it turned out that we finished in 3rd place out of the 28 entered dogs with an excellent rating, 76/80 points. I was more than satisfied – I didn’t even think about making it to the TOP 4, but it was a great experience for me.
